Sadly, it is now being run in Nigeria like a blend of network marketing and ponzi.

It now promises 'get-rich-quick' with a nice blend of 'bring-two-people'.

However, affiliate marketing is a great business model if followed properly.

So, if you want to thrive in affiliate marketing, here's my suggestion:

1. Become an affiliate for unpopular products/markets. You don't need to get into that circle before you become an affiliate marketer. Find your own profitable circle.

For example- If you find the cheapest importer/partner for HP laptops, you can become his affiliate to sell entry-level laptops.

2. Kill the get-rich-quick mindset and think longterm.

With a longterm mindset, you are most likely to build a more sustainable business

3. Like any other business, deploy exciting strategies and even become affiliate for complementing products.

If you sell a laptop to someone, consider selling alongside an instructor to teach him how to use the computer.

You can be affiliate for both the laptop distributor and the training guy.

4. Affiliate marketing allows you to own nothing, but be able to bring a buyer and seller together for a commission.

Keep your mind and eyes focused on finding the hottest products to become affiliate for.

Remember, the hottest product mustn't be the most popular.
